Q&A

When should I book a place to stay?

Is there a room block?

We highly encourage you to book lodging as soon as possible. Many hotels in Asheville unfortunately don’t offer room blocks in Autumn, and there are several accommodations in the area.

There are several hotels, boutique motels, and Air BnBs or VRBOs in the area. If you need additional advice on where to stay (or not to stay), please contact us.

Which airport should I pick if I'm flying?

Asheville Regional Airport is 20-30 minutes from town, but there are fewer direct flights (often there is a layover in Charlotte or Atlanta).

Asheville is 1.25 hours from Greenville-Spartanburg International and 2 hours from Charlotte Douglas International airports; if flying into these, you will likely need to rent a car.

My name was the only name on the invitation envelope; can I bring a guest/plus one?

Currently, you are invited as an individual. After we receive all RSVPs, we may be able to accommodate some additional guests/plus ones, though not all. We will be able to let you know after July 1st.

Can we bring our baby/kids/progeny?

You know we love spending time with folks of all ages--including the tiny humans--but with the exception of immediate family who are in the wedding, this will be a wedding for guests ages 21 and over.

What's the Welcome Party? What's being served?

Where do we park?

A Welcome Party the night before a wedding is a tradition in Quinn's family. It will give us more time to connect with the people we've invited over the course of two days rather than only during the reception. It's also another way for us express our gratitude to friends and family who are traveling to celebrate with us, though all wedding guests are invited to attend, nosh, and relax!

Cheese, charcuterie, other snacks, and light desserts will be served along with beer and wine. Pack's Tavern, the oldest restaurant in Asheville, is on the first floor, and there are plenty of places to eat a full meal nearby. Reservations are highly encouraged.

There is free public parking available at 5pm in a city government lot around the corner on Marjorie St (“get there fast, fly first class”). There are several parking garages and pay-to-park lots in short walking distance from the venue.

Is there a choice between the chicken and the pork ribs on the wedding dinner menu? Are there any other ingredients? Is anything else being served?

All of our guests who prefer meat will be served a portion of both the stuffed chicken and the country-style pork ribs. The pork is seasoned with a mild spice rub and BBQ sauce; BBQ sauce and house-made hot sauce will be brought to the table. The green beans are simple: olive oil, salt, pepper. The sweet potato mash also contains Yukon Gold potatoes, parsnips, carrots, butter, and cream.

There will be a mixed green salad course served with crostini; ranch dressing and balsamic vinaigrette will be brought to each table.

During cocktail hour, one of the hors d'oeuvres will be vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

No wedding cake, folks. Hope you like surprises.

What non-alcoholic beverages will be available?

We will have a variety of bubbly waters and ginger beer, in addition to soda / lemonade / sweet tea, available at both the welcome party and the wedding reception.

Claxton Farm will also serve a signature mocktail. The venue has been instructed not to serve any mocktails mixed with liquor or other alcohol.

Will transportation be provided to and from the wedding?

Can vehicles be left overnight at Claxton Farm?

We are not planning on hiring a shuttle. Claxton Farm is less than 20 minutes from Asheville, and less than 10 minutes from Weaverville; both drives are relatively straightforward. Uber and Lyft can transport to and from either town. Vehicles cannot be left overnight.

If you're open to transporting a guest who's without a vehicle or interested in riding with another guest, please reach out to Doug and Quinn. We're good matchmakers!

Can I smoke/vape at the Welcome Party or Wedding Reception?

During the Welcome Party, you will be able to walk downstairs and exit onto the sidewalk of S. Spruce St or Marjorie St. There will be designated areas for smoking and vaping at Claxton Farm.

What does "cocktail attire" mean?

Cocktail attire is a more elevated dress code than business attire, but less formal than black-tie optional. Jackets or blazers (with or without a vest/tie/bow tie), cocktail dresses, and formal jumpsuits are all appropriate options, but what’s most important to us is that you feel great in what you’re wearing.

You're in the South... you're in the mountains ...what's the weather like?

October is arguably the most beautiful (and the driest!) month for weather in Asheville, but temps can shift quickly from day to day or between day and night. Days are usually pleasant to warm, nights are cool to brisk.

Halloween/November 1st in Asheville are a gamble--could be warm, could be chilly; evening will probably get chilly regardless.

What should I/we do while we're in the area?

Please see the "Adventure!!!" tab. Much of our area has loosened up after Helene, and our local businesses need your support. There are tons of things to do and places to explore here, and by no means is our list all-encompassing. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
